The Program Instructor will provide enjoyable, high quality and safe classes to YMCA members and program participants.  Example of classes may include,  but are not limited to, the following:  Art, Tumbling, Gymnastic, Dance, Marital Arts, Preschool Motor Skills and Activities, Reading, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Serves as a role model to members and Y staff and live the YMCA mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
  2. Provide "extraordinary" member service and responsiveness to members needs.
  3. Maintains equipment and insure good housekeeping before, during and after class reporting all concerns.
  4. Exhibits teaching and leadership skills in related program area.
  5. Models and enforces facility policies and put the Y mission in action
  6. Attends all staff meetings and/or trainings when scheduled
  7. Assists with fundraising events when needed
  8. Secures approval from supervisor of a sub when needed
  9. Reports any accidents, concerns, equipment troubles immediately
  10. Fills out and file with appropriate supervisor all incident reports when needed
  11. Maintains a positive attitude and act in a professional manner when interacting with members, program participants and other staff at all times
  12. Establishes and maintains good communication with all participants, members and supervisor
  13. Participate in and solicit others to participate in necessary YMCA financial development efforts, specifically the Annual Campaign.
  14. Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
  15. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y.
  16. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
  17. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
  18. All other duties as assigned by the Program Director II- Aquatics/Youth Development.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High School degree preferred
  2. Prior experience in related field.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be able to pass background check
  2. CPR/First Aid/AED certification*
  3. Mandatory Reporter*

*Note: If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire. The * noted certification training programs are provided by SCFY staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must have the ability to physically perform and demonstrate all related activities being taught, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.  While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and be able to perform tasks needed for projects at hand.  Must be able to see, talk and/or hear regularly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and varying fitness equipment.  The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate and moderate too loud depending on the type of event.  This position works in a variety of environments which can include but are not limited to, office settings, gymnasiums, and outdoors.   This position works a varied work week as determined by the needs required to manage operations and events of which can include working evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate program and other activities representing the organization and branch operation.
