The Child Watch Coordinator is responsible for directly participating with program participants who are using the facility according to Scott County Family Y program guidelines and standards. The Coordinator is to help facilitate and guide the teaching of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and assist in the maintenance of the Child Watch Room in accordance with YMCA standards and is responsible for orienting new families to Child Watch.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Assists the Branch Executive with supervision of Child Watch Attendants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Serve as a role model to members and YMCA staff and live the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA movement.
2. Provide basic care for the needs of children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old to include, but not limited to, playing, care, comfort, and consoling.
3. Greet members and guests in a warm, friendly manner and orient new families to the Child Watch programs.
4. Oversee and ensure Child Watch Attendants are depending upon which activity is being performed.
5. Ensure registration forms are completed fully and accurately for each child.
6. Facilitate and implement age-appropriate character development activities for children using the YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
7. Participate with children in all activities.
8. Communicate effectively with parents.
9. Maintain a safe, sanitary work area.
10. Use appropriate disciplinary techniques.
11. Provide one-on-one care to children with special needs as needed.
12. Assist the Branch Executive with scheduling staff as needed.
13. Monitor the use of the Child Watch and that the time limit is adhered to.
14. Complete records and reports as required and submit them to the Executive or Center Director in a timely manner.
15. Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
16. Adherence to all policies and procedures of Scott County Family Y.
17. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency
procedures and location of emergency equipment.
18. Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
19. All other duties as assigned by the Branch Executive.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Higher level Pre-k/Elementary Child Care Education certificates are preferred.
2. Proven ability to communicate effectively with young children, parents, members and staff.
3. 1 year experience working with children ages 6 weeks – 12 years of age preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be able to pass background check
2. CPR/First Aid/AED certification*
3. Mandatory Reporter*
*Note: If not currently certified, must obtain certification within 30 days of hire. The * noted certification training programs are provided by SCFY staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand or sit for periods each day, must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to walk, carry and pick up children as well as perform other physical activities involved with caring and playing of young children.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and is regularly exposed to small toys, child size furniture and other items normally associated with a child care facility. Occasionally the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and varying fitness equipment in the facility in general. The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants. This position works a varied work week as determined by the needs required to manage operations and events of which can include working evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate program and other activities representing the organization and branch operation.
